The TMA Green Club met twice with the Anacostia Watershed Society to learn more about the Anacostia River and surrounding land. On June 11, the Green Club embarked on a five mile canoe excursion, starting at the north end of the Anacostia River and ending at Bladensburg Port. The canoeists stopped for lunch at the National Arboretum and paddled around the aquatic gardens. Students experienced first hand how everyone's actions within the Anacostia Watershed affect wildlife on the river and the river habitat.
Then, on June 13, the Green Club put its knowledge about wetland plants to use as they worked in conjunction with the Anacostia Watershed Society to plant over 50 wetland plants in a wetland restoration area near the Langston Golf Course on the Anacostia River. The Green Club learned about the importance of wetlands and how non-migratory Canada Geese are threatening the wetland on the Anacostia River.
Great work.
