The Thurgood Marshall Academy Debate Team competed in its second tournament on Saturday, December 6. The tournament, held at Friendship Collegiate Academy Public Charter School, was organized by the DC Urban Debate League; 12 DC schools participated, making the tournament the largest in the Legue's history.
TMA placed 4th overall and had 10 wins. In the Team competition, Shamir Fauntleroy, Brian Crawford, and Demetrius Suggs placed 7th with a 3-1 record. In the individual competition, in which 112 debaters competed, Markus Batchelor placed 5th and Shamir Fauntleroy placed 19th. The team also included first-time debaters Mache Chase, Terrance Mills, and Akasha Rodgers who did a terrific job competing in the tournament.
The coaches, Ms. Garcia and Mr. London, would like to thank the teachers for continuing to stress critical thinking, public speaking, and the use of evidence in the classroom, crediting these practices for much of the Team's success.
Congratulations!
