Thanks to the Thurgood Marshall Academy Green Club, our school participates in green practices every day. After learning about the environmental impact of trash, the students started to regularly weight and monitor trash production across the school, measuring the weight produced and challenging the school community to produce less waste.
Students expanded their green vision when they began a worm compost pile, fueled by scraps from the cafeteria. The students use the compost created by the worms to use in the school garden; students then grow food which they take home for their families.
For their next project, the Green Club is making a documentary about the school's food. More information about a film screening and the school's Earth Day fair will be available soon.
Check out what else the Green Club is up to -- they're featured in an article in Green Right Now, available here.
